The small town of Bargarh in western Odisha (Orissa) is a popular for worlds biggest open air theatre, an epic play with a name of Dhanu Yatra or locally called Dhanu Jatra is one of the important festival in Odisha (Orissa). The 11 day long Dhanu (Bow) Yatra (Festival) is organized in the month of Pausa or in the beginning of January each year. The small town of Bargarh transforms into the splendid platform for depiction of mythological epic play. Bargarh becomes the city of Mathura, the river Jeera becomes the river Yammuna and Ambapali situated on the other side of Jeera becomes Gopapura.

Lord Krishnas legendary tales draw Hindu devotees from far and wide to experience the rich religious culture of India. Dhanu Yatra Festival of Orissa is about the story of Lord Krishna who visited Mathura to witness the ceremony of Bow organized by Kansa, the then King of Mathura. The word Dhanu means Bow. The festival takes place in the Sambalpur District of Orissa. During the festival tourist congregate from different parts of the Odisha as well as India to witnesses various local performances. These performances are held especially in the afternoon.

Dhanu Yatra takes place in the months of December January. The festival continues for 5 to 12 days after Pausa Purnima according to the local calendar. Dhanu Yatra witnesses various tourists from different parts of the state as well as from the country. Tourists can take the bus as the neighboring cities and states provide bus service at a reasonable rate.

  • Day 1 (SAT) – 31ST DECEMBER / 2016: BHUBANESWAR

    Arrival at Bhubaneswar airport ? transfer to hotel. Overnight stay at Bhubaneswar.

  • Day 2 (SUN)-1ST JAN 2017: BALIGUDA

    During morning after breakfast drive to Baliguda area to visit Kondh Tribe village – Kutria (tattoo faced) Tribal village (camping) or overnight stay at hotel.

  • Day 3 (MON) 2ND JAN: RAYAGADA

    During morning after breakfast visit Kutia Tribal village, hiking and overnight stay at Rayagada.

  • Day 4 (TUE) – 3RD JAN, 2017: CHATIKONA

    During morning after breakfast drive to Chatikona area to visit Dunguria Tribe village- Desia Kondh Tribal village. Overnight stay in hotel in Rayagada.

  • Day 5 (WED) 4TH JAN, 2017: JEYPORE

    During morning drive to chatikona to visit the weekly market of Dunguria Konth Tribes and Kuvi Kondh village – Podagarh. Overnight stay at Jeypore.

  • Day 6 (THU) 5TH JAN, 2017: ONKADELI

    After breakfast drive to Onkadeli area to meet the most colourful primitive Bonda Tribes in their weekly market. Also meet – Gadhava tribal village. Overnight stay at Jeypore.

  • Day 7 (FRI)-6TH JAN, 2017: KALAHANDI

    During morning drive to Kalahandi area to meet the Batra Tribes in their village and Bhumiya Tribal village. Overnight stay at Kalahandi Kings palace.

  • Day 8 (SAT) 7TH JAN, 2017: KALAHANDI

    During morning after breakfast drive to Kalahandi and Baidyanathpur and Sonepur , the Varanasi of Odisha. Enjoy the Boating on Mahanadi. Overnight stay at Sonepur.

  • Day 9 (SUN) 8TH JAN, 2017: SAMBALPUR

    During morning visit Huma Temple – Samelswari temple in Sambalpur, textile village, Bargarh textile village. Evening enjoy the Dhanuyatra Festival.

  • Day 10 (MON)-9TH JAN, 2017: BARGARH

    Dhanuyatra Festival.

  • Day 11 (TUE)- 10TH JAN, 2017: DHENKANAL

    During morning after breakfast drive to Joranda, Dhenkanal to witness the half naked Mahima Sadhus of Joronda and their monastery and evening prayer. Overnight stay at Kings Palace in Dhenkanal.

  • Day 12 (WED)-11TH JAN, 2017: LALITGIRI/ UDAYGIRI/ RATNAGIRI

    During morning after breakfast visit the Sadebeni tribal jwellery village in Dhenkanal and afternoon visit Buddhist circuit (Lalitgiri/ Udaygiri/ Ratnagiri). Overnight stay at Ratnagiri or Kilajodi.

  • Day 13 (THU)- 12TH JAN, 2017: BHUBAENSWAR

    During morning drive to Bhubaenswar to visit the temple city of Bhubaneswar to visit some of the magnigicent temples such as Lingaraj temple, Mukteswar/Sidheswar temple, Rajarani and Brahmeswar temple, Khandagiri/udaygiri Jain caves and trbal museuam. Overnight stay at Puri.

  • Day 14 (FRI)-13TH JAN, 2017: PURI

    During morning visit Puri, the holy city by cycle rickshaw to visit Fishermen village, Pottery village, Priest colony around the Jagannath temple. Afternoon drive to world heritage site Konark Sun temple and konark fishermen village. Overnight stay at Puri.

  • Day 15 (SAT)-14TH JAN, 2017: BHUBANESWAR

    Departure for Bhubaneswar airport for your onward destination.
