The Bhitarkanika sanctuary, widely acclaimed for its biodiversity in flora and fauna, is the second largest compact mangrove ecosystem in India. covering an area of 650 Sq. Km. is one of the best sanctuaries in the state as well in the country. Lying alongside the Bay of Bengal is an enchanting mangrove forest and a crocodile sanctuary, protecting the estuarine crocodiles from 1975 and declared as a National Park in 1998.

Bounded by rivers Brahmani, Dhamra & Baitarani on the three sides and the sea on the fourth, Bhitarkanika is criss crossed by numerous creeks and canals which finally meets the  sea and make the estuarine delta, the play ground of the Ben of Bengal. A thrilling experience awaits you as you trek into the mangrove forest.  Bhitarkanika is the natural habitat of The largest population of estuarine crocodile and Olive Ridley sea Turtles and other wild creatures like King Cobra, Pythohs, wild pigs Rhesus Monkey, Sambars Spotted Dear etc.  Water Monitor Lizards, Pythons, Wild Pigs are seen. The Birds Island with spotted deers are otherattraction to the sanctuary.

Gahir Matha’ sea beach, at a distance of 3.3 kms from Dangmal Forest Rest House is perhaps the Largest Turtle breeding beach in the World.


Itinerary

  • Day 1: BHADRAK

    During morning drive to Bhadrak and further drive to Chandbali overnight at Chandbali tourist Lodge. Enjoy the boat ride through creeks of the mangrove forest. Enter the core area where you can meet across different species of King fishers, wild animals like spotted dear, wild boor etc and crocodile basking in the sun.? Overnight stay in Dangamal tourist lodge.

  • Day 2: DANGAMALA

    During morning take the boat to Bagaghana where you can meet?different species of migratory birds, the annual congregation from July to November. Birds like open Billed storks, Egrets, Herons, White Ibis, Lasser Adjutant Storks, Snake Birds, Green Pigeon, Emerald Pigeon, Indian Robin, Jungle fowl etc. During afternoon trek in the forest where there is the chance of meeting?across different species of reptiles and wild animals. Boat back to?Dangamala for overnight stay in the tourist bungalow.

  • Day 3: CHANDBALI

    During morning boat back to the mainland Chandbali and after lunch drive to Bhadrak to board the train for your next destination.
